Synopsis:

When Rowan and Isabel return to the coastline where they spent a blissful summer, almost fifty years before, it’s with a very different purpose.

Isabel is dying; she wants it to be here, now.

As darkness falls, their past collides with the present and Rowan is called upon to make a sacrifice that will preserve their unity forever.

Passionate, searing and poetic “The Mapmaker” examines a life and love that, just like all of ours, is all too fleeting.

Project Overview:

“The Mapmaker” is the highly anticipated second project in a slate of distinctive and original films from emerging Writer, Director and producing partnership Scott James Bassett and Stephen Johnson.

An intimate epic, charting the course of a relationship back to its initial spark in the 1960s, as it hurtles towards a powerful, heartrending conclusion in the present day, “The Mapmaker” explores issues of love, faith and identity in the face of loss.

Starring the BAFTA-nominated Bernard Hill (the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, “Titanic”, “Valkyrie”) and Harry Eden (“Flashbacks of a Fool”, “Oliver Twist”, “Pure”), “The Mapmaker” is currently in pre-production to shoot early 2010 and is Executive Produced by Sarah Radclyffe (Co-founder of Working Title and acclaimed Producer of films including “My Beautiful Launderette”, “Wish you were here”, “The Ratcatcher”, “The Edge of Love”) and Nicolas Roeg (visionary director of modern classics including “Walkabout”, “The Man Who Fell to Earth” and “Don’t Look Now”).

“The Mapmaker” has attracted substantial industry support from companies including Panalux, iLab and Kodak. Award-winning Spanish DOP Neus Olle (“3 dias cone la familia”, “Ella-La huella de Mercedes Pinto”, “El cant dels ocells”) is onboard to shoot the film, which will feature an original score from Oscar-nominated composer Barrington Pheloung (“Hilary and Jackie”, “Shopgirl”, “Truly, Madly, Deeply”).

“The Mapmaker” will be finished to the highest possible technical standards for distribution on the international film festival circuit, prior to theatrical, broadcast and finally internet release. Screenplay, schedule and budget are available on request.
