ABOUT

Described by award winning BBC Films Producer Ruth Caleb (“Last Resort”, “Bullet Boy”, “Tomorrow La Scala!”) as ‘absorbing, lyrical and enjoyably Noir’, “Hunger” is the short film debut of emerging writer director partnership Stephen Johnson and Scott James Bassett…and is generating a real buzz in industry circles.

As highly respected film professionals in their own right (Scott is a Feature Film Line Producer, and Stephen a Commercials Production Manager), they formed Flame47 together in 2003 as a place to develop and produce projects of their own. “Hunger” was shot over six nights in multiple locations in and around Zagreb, Croatia in November 2007 with a fully professional crew. It is the first in a slate of innovative and original short and feature length film projects for Flame47 Limited.

An incredibly ambitious international Co-production between Flame47 and Croatian Production house Mainframe Films, “Hunger” is ably supported by Co-Producers Suza Horvat (“Tube Tales”) and Igor A. Nola (“The Peacemaker”, “Kiss Of Life”), and Executive Produced by Gisela Evert (“London To Brighton”) and Debbie Turner, head of multi-award winning commercials production company MJZ. Beautifully shot by award winning Cinematographer Dragan Markovic (“The Living And The Dead”), “Hunger” stars Daniel Betts (“Tom’s Midnight Garden”, “Carrington”) as the apathetic Saul, and features a mesmerizing performance by Nadia Cameron Blakey (“Last Chance Harvey”, “Batman Begins”).

SHORT SYNOPSIS

“Hunger” is a dark, noirish thriller about desire and the consequence of apathy.

Stranded for the night in a foreign city, Saul (Daniel Betts) is a businessman who’s given up on all his hopes for the future, in his own words he is ‘existing, not living’...

When the city proves hostile, dangerous and confusing, Saul retreats into its labyrinthine backstreets, where a chance encounter with a mysterious and seductive woman (Nadia Cameron-Blakey) seems to offer an escape.

What Saul takes initially to be the prospect of a cheap thrill rapidly becomes much more. As events spiral out of his control, Saul realises that this one night could be his last and only chance for redemption…

…but the woman it seems, has quite different plans for him.
